ARIA Awards 2014

Photo from: Lola Fdez's Pinterest account

I know I have been neglecting my blog the past few weeks but I have had some exciting, new job opportunities, which have been popping up so in the midst of all that I have hardly had a moment to myself lately. It is great to finally take some time and do a new blog post! For those of you in Australia, you of course would know that the ARIA Awards were held last night at The Star Event Centre in Sydney and they were broadcast on Channel Ten.

Back in the 90s and even early noughties the ARIAS were quite a large-scale event for the Australian music industry and most people tuned in to watch them on television. To be quite honest last night was the first time that I enjoyed watching the awards in about seven years. The awards were of a much higher standard this year than the past few years. Channel Ten's entertainment reporter, Angela Bishop made a good point last night at the ARIAS saying that Australian music has skyrocketed this year and I definitely agree with her! Some of the most popular artists in the world at the moment are Australian like, Sheppard, Sia, Iggy Azalea and of course teen music sensation, 5 Seconds Of Summer (5SOS), so our music industry awards need to be on a global scale to reflect the calibre of our talent, otherwise our homegrown talent will not want to attend the awards nor take it seriously. It is really amazing to see Australia become a real world player on the international music scene!

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Now onto this year's ARIA Awards themselves! Delta Goodrem got my vote for best dressed of the night by far! Her dress was classy and definitely suited her to a T! It was great to see The Veronicas aka Jessica and Lisa Origliasso back home on the ARIAS red carpet. I used to love The Veronicas a few years ago so it was a nice flashback to see them at the awards last night.

I'm not usually a fan of 5 Seconds Of Summer (5SOS) but they did a great job of opening the awards show with their smash hit, She Looks So Perfect. 5SOS are actually the first Australian artists to have their debut album reach number one in the USA. I love Jessica Mauboy but I was not a fan of her performance of, Can I Get A Moment? last night. My favourite performances of the night were definitely Sheppard, with their hit song, Geronimo and One Direction with their latest song, Steal My Girl. To be honest I'm not normally a fan of One Direction either, but I have to give credit where it's due and that song is very good!

The big awards of the night. Album of the Year and Song of the Year went to, Sia and 5 Seconds Of Summer respectively. It was a massive night for Sia because she also walked away with the awards for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release. Chet Faker took out the award of Best Male Artist, as well as Best Independent Release. Iggy Azalea won the ARIA for Breakthrough Artist, Hilltop Hoods won the award for Best Urban Album, Sheppard walked away with Best Group and Keith Urban won Best Australian Live Act.

I was surprised to see that Katy Perry or Beyonce' did not win the ARIA for Best International Artist, but then I realised with teenage girls in the audience and, also voting in that category it was pretty obvious who would win...yes that's right! The winner of Best International Artist was One Direction. To top it all off for me, I loved that Katy Perry was a special guest at the ARIAS! Katy Perry is one of my favourite artists of all-time so it was amazing to see her at our music awards.

Of course, another big highlight of the night was Molly Meldrum's induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Most Australians would know that Molly Meldrum is a stalwart in the Australian music industry. He hosted Countdown, the most popular music program in Australian history, where he interviewed some of the most famous artists in the world including, Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Beatles and ABBA. The ARIAS did a fantastic tribute to this great man, who really put Australian music on the map.

Did you guys watch the ARIAS? I want to know your thoughts on this year's awards so feel free to comment away! Who was your pick for best dressed?, what were your favourite performances? etc.

Happy Halloween!- My top 10 scary movie picks!

Boo! Well, I guess you can all tell what this blog post is about if the picture and title haven't already given it away! I know it's been a few weeks in between blog posts but, my little dog, Lassie has been very sick so my mind has been elsewhere. She is still very tired but she is slowly getting her energy back thankfully day by day. Lassie is very old, she's 16 so we'll see how she goes.

On a lighter topic and I know it's a bit late but Happy Halloween! Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year. To be honest in Australia Halloween isn't as big of a thing as it is in the USA, Canada and some other parts of the world but it is getting more popular here each year, with people having more Halloween parties, more children going trick-or-treating and more people just dressing up in spooky costumes for fun. Some Australians aren't fans of Halloween, because they feel it has nothing to do with our culture and that's true but in Australia we have people from all over the world, who have come to live here and their food, music etc have become popular, now Halloween is gaining more popularity and there's nothing wrong with that if people wish to celebrate it. I personally love Halloween as you can probably tell and I don't really see it as a cultural thing. I just see it as a chance to have a bit of fun!  Now in the spirit of Halloween I have chosen my top ten scary movies. Here they are in no particular order of spookiness:

1)  Jurassic Park- (1995)
Photo from: Safari Ltd's Pinterest account
I first saw Jurassic Park about a year after it came out in the cinemas. I was eight years old at the time and I thought it was the scariest movie ever. These days though I don't find it terrifying at all, but it's still a classic 90's movie!

2) House On Haunted Hill- (1959)
Photo from: Claire Larwood's Pinterest account
Some of you may know that Vincent Price is famous for his classic horror films. I am such a fan of Vincent Price's 50's horror movies. I saw House On Haunted Hill last Halloween actually and I loved it! It's a far cry from the horror films these days, because obviously the special effects in 1959 were not as advanced as today but the mood of the film is amazing!

3) Halloween- (1978)
Photo from: Louis Bridges's Pinterest account
To be honest I haven't actually seen Halloween all the way through, but I keep meaning to! The bits and pieces I have seen though are pretty scary and it seems like it has a good plot line.

4) IT- (1990)
Photo from: Kaitlyn Weiss's Pinterest account
Hmm...I'm not sure where to begin with this movie? (haha!) I saw IT when I was 12 years old at a sleepover. A movie about a clown who eats children. Well, you can imagine what that would do to a 12-year-old child can't you? I was so scared after I saw IT that I slept with my light on for about two nights. I'm still not sure how my mother let me watch it at that age.

5) The Exorcist- (1973)
Photo from: Santino Micelli's Pinterest account
I saw The Exorcist last Halloween too. It's scary but not as much as I thought it would be. I think it's more the voice of the possessed girl, that creeped me out more than anything.

6) The Others- (2001)
Photo from: Isabel Goncalves's Pinterest account
I saw The Others when I was 14 at a friend's birthday party. I found it to be more confusing than scary to be quite honest, because the movie left me wondering who the real dead people were.

7) Child's Play- (1988)
Photo from: Carl Gustafson's Pinterest account
This is another movie I haven't seen all the way through, but even the opening credits with the blood and the skin going down the drain actually left me feeling quite queasy so I'm guessing the movie itself is pretty damn scary!

8) Bride Of Chucky- (1998)
Photo from: Joy Woods's Pinterest account
I haven't actually seen Bride Of Chucky, but any film about a creepy doll is thrilling and terrifying in my book!

9) The Sixth Sense- (1999)
Photo from: Susan Beadle's Pinterest account
I saw The Sixth Sense a few years ago when it was on television. I think it's a good movie, but for me again it was one of those films that had the hype of being so scary but it wasn't actually, except for the scene where Kyra Collins [Mischa Barton] vomits. I found that so gross!

10) The Ring- (2002)
Photo from: Cassie Ryan's Pinterest account
I only saw The Ring a few years ago but I was quite freaked out by it for a while, whenever I saw a strange ring shape somewhere I was a little scared to be honest.

So that's my top 10 scary movie picks for Halloween! I had a great Halloween by the way! I went to the movies with my sister and a few friends, because there was a special Halloween screening of Ghostbusters at Event Cinemas. It was so much fun!

I'd love to hear what you all got up to on Halloween? Did you go trick-or-treating?, did you go to any Halloween parties? Also I'd love to know what some of your favourite scary movies are, because I may check them out sometime! So feel free to comment away people! Once again...Happy Halloween!

STARDUST weekly tidbits- October 18

Photo from: Bruce Wayne's Pinterest account

Here's what's been making entertainment news headlines around the world this week...just in case you missed it!

Michael Jackson still on top, even after death
Forbes Magazine released their annual list of the top-earning dead celebrities this week and sitting in the number one spot is none other than the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. MJ raked in US$140 million in earnings this year. Most of that money comes from the Michael Jackson Estate, which is running Cirque Du Soleil's very successful, Michael Jackson Immortal show. The late pop star's second posthumous album, Xscape was released this year and he also appeared in hologram form at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Coming in at number two on Forbes list is Michael Jackson's former father-in-law and rock 'n' roll legend, Elvis Presley, with an estimated US$55 million in earnings this year. Presley's estate still does well due to the flock of fans, who visit Graceland annually. Peanuts cartoonist, Charles Schultz ranks number three on the list with US$40 million. Peanuts has never really gone away thanks to online versions of the famous comic strips and clever merchandising. Hollywood legend, Elizabeth Taylor comes in at number four with US$25 million this year, due to her successful perfume line and lastly to round out the list, coming in at number five is reggae singer, Bob Marley with an estimated US$20 million in earnings this year. The singer's face can be seen on everything from bags to t-shirts and even on a line of fruit-flavoured drinks.

Joan Rivers autopsy released
Joan Rivers autopsy report was released on Thursday, revealing her official cause of death to be a lack of sufficient oxygen to the brain. According to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner's (OCME) investigation the cause of Rivers death was brain damage due to a decrease in oxygen to the brain during her endoscopy surgery. The autopsy report also revealed that Rivers was under propofol sedation, the same anaesthetic that caused Michael Jackson's death in 2009. The comedian's death was classified as a "therapeutic complication", which means that her death officially resulted from a common complication of medical therapy. "We continue to be saddened by our tragic loss and grateful for the enormous outpouring of love and support from around the world. We have no further comment at this time", Rivers daughter, Melissa said in a statement.

Iggy Azalea and Snoop Dogg in Twitter feud
Snoop Dogg started the feud when he mocked Iggy Azalea's recent make-up free photo. Snoop tweeted a meme of a man with cornrows in his hair and likened it to the Australian hip-hop star. Iggy Azalea called Snoop Dogg an a**, Snoop called her a b**ch and now, we have a feud! The 24-year-old tweeted her own unflattering picture of Snoop and captioned it: "When your drug addict aunt gets clean". Iggy didn't stop there, she went on to explain why she thinks the 42-year-old rapper is two-faced. "I only had an issue with the meme in the first place because he acts another way to my face, he even follows me" Iggy tweeted. Snoop kept the feud going with an Instagram message saying "Iggy was a man so says Todd. Hahahahahaha goodnight b**ch!! Kangaroo yo pink punk a** bac to the land down unda"!! This set Iggy off on a Twitter rant "I could post a million more memes about Snoop Dogg making fun of the way he looks too, that's easy, but the real joke here is the middle-aged man who's butt hurt I asked why he was pulling a Regina George move on social media. If I'm a b**ch for asking why you are supportive to my face but another way on your Instagram then so be it" she tweeted. After days of arguing back and forth, the Australian rapper finally tweeted "Ima be the bigger man in this situation and leave it be".

Charlie Sheen splits from fiance'
Former Two And A Half Men star, Charlie Sheen confirmed that he has split from his fiance', Brett Rossi. "She's a terrific gal but we've mutually decided to go our separate ways and not spend the rest of our lives together. I've decided that my children deserve my focus more than a relationship does right now" Sheen said in a statement.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner make TIME's influential teens list
It has been a big week for magazine lists, with TIME releasing their 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014 list. The list has raised a few eyebrows because the publication places reality TV stars, Kendall Jenner, 18, and Kylie Jenner, 17 on the list alongside recent Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafazi, 17. Unsurprisingly many people have an issue with this. TIME magazine justifies the Jenners placement on the list, citing their multiple business ventures. "Together, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians stars hosted red carpet events, released clothing and nail polish lines and even published a dystopian young adult novel this past Summer (though yes, they had some help). They've had solo success too, Kendall with modelling (she's walked the runway for designers like Marc Jacobs) and Kylie with pseudo-entrepreneurship (she's launching a line of hair extensions and hopes to get into acting)" TIME wrote.

Got any opinions or comments on any of these stories? I'd love to hear them! What's your take on the feud between Iggy Azalea and Snoop Dogg and what do you think of Forbes and TIME's lists? Feel free to leave your comments in the comment box below.

Catherine Hicks sticks by Stephen Collins

Photo from: Angela Parsons Pinterest account

Actress, Catherine Hicks, who played the role of Annie Camden on 7th Heaven for 11 years has supported her former on-screen husband, Stephen Collins, after leaked tapes of Collins allegedly confessing to sexually abusing underage girls emerged this week.

Hicks stood behind Collins in the wake of the accusations, when she talked to paparazzi yesterday. "I really have nothing to say, nothing to hide. I don't know anything. Stephen's a good guy in my opinion" she said. When asked if anyone on the 7th Heaven set had any suspicion about Collins, the 63-year-old actress was adamant. "No, gosh, no" Hicks said.

The audio recording of the confession was taped by Collins ex-wife, Faye Grant and leaked to US tabloid news site, TMZ. Grant made a secret recording of the confession during a therapy session with Collins. TMZ says that Collins was unaware that he was being taped, but under California law it is legal to make such a recording in order to gather evidence for a "violent felony" charge.

The New York Police Department is investigating the case, as two of the three alleged incidents took place in New York City. The third was allegedly in Los Angeles. Police spokesman, Stephen David says a complaint was filed in 2012 and accused Collins of forcing a then 14-year-old girl to commit a lewd act in 1972. David says the case remains open but no charges have been filed. "There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad" the police department's statement said. The Los Angeles Police Department is also reviewing the audiotape, but a spokesman said they did not plan to open their own investigation.

Faye Grant and Stephen Collins are currently going through what TMZ described as a "nasty and prolonged divorce". The fallout from the allegations has been swift, with reports by The Hollywood Reporter of Collins being dropped from the sequel to Seth MacFarlane's hugely popular film, Ted, which is set for release in the US on June 26 next year. The US actors union, SAG-AFTRA has also confirmed that Collins resigned from the body's national board and the US cable channel, UPTV, which airs re-runs of 7th Heaven has pulled the program from its schedule.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher welcome baby daughter
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have welcomed their baby daughter into the world on Wednesday and they have now revealed the baby's name. Kutcher took to his website to introduce his daughter to the world. "Mila and I would like to welcome Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher to the world. May your life be filled with wonder, love, laughter, health, happiness, curiosity and privacy" he wrote. The That 70s Show actor then challenged readers to guess which of several baby photos is actually Wyatt. "Can you guess which one is ours, or does it really matter?" Kutcher asked.

Kim Kardashian denies reports that she left baby, North West at hotel
Kim Kardashian is firing back at reports that she forgot her daughter, North West inside a Paris hotel this week. The reality star was seen leaving the hotel and heading to a car, before going back inside the lobby and exiting again, this time with her daughter. "Heard on the radio today some story I forgot my daughter at our hotel as I'm leaving for the airport. Are you kidding me?!?!?! LOL. I went to the car to make sure the car seat was in because the day before we had a car seat issue" Kardashian tweeted.

The Veronicas are back on top again
Jessica and Lisa Origliasso of The Veronicas have managed to make a big comeback this year, with their new song, You Ruin Me, which hit No.1 on the ARIA charts this week. The Veronicas had three years where they were releasing no music, due to disputes with their record label Warner Music. The twins are now signed with Sony Music. The 29-year-old singers admit that You Ruin Me is very different to the pop tunes that people are used to hearing from them. "We didn't expect anything, we just kind of wanted to get it out there, but for so many people to connect to the song it's very validating" Lisa Origliasso told Sydney Confidential.

Charlie Sheen sued over dentist incident
A dental technician who says actor, Charlie Sheen punched her in the chest during an office visit is now suing him for assault and battery. Margarita Palestino filed the lawsuit on Friday in Los Angeles seeking unspecified damages from the former Two And A Half Men star. The lawsuit accuses Sheen of attacking her during a dental appointment on September 25th, including punching her in the chest and grabbing her bra. "Sheen had an adverse reaction to the combination of nitrous oxide and pain medication he was taking for a shoulder injury and that Sheen knocked over dental instruments, but other elements of the woman's story are not true" Sheen's publicist, Jeff Ballard said. Los Angeles police said that they have an active investigation into the incident but could not release further details.

Slash to play at NRL grand final
Legendary rock guitarist and former Guns 'N' Roses member, Slash is set to perform during the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL grand final. Slash will perform his new single, Bent To Fly from his album Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. "For me, it is going to be such a great experience to be in that environment with that energy performing, even if it's just the one song it is going to be quite the experience" he said.

20 years of the Kennedys on Neighbours!

Photo from: Neighbours Facebook page

Okay, so most people who have known me for a while will be aware that I am a massive fan of long-running Australian soap opera, Neighbours. I've been watching the show since I was eight years old back in 1996. Today is a very important occasion in the history of Neighbours so I can't let it slip by unnoticed. October 3rd, 2014 marks 20 years since the Kennedy family i.e. Alan Fletcher (Dr. Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy), Benji McNair (Malcolm Kennedy), Kym Valentine (Libby Kennedy) and Billy Kennedy (Jesse Spencer) (and, yes in case you were wondering that's the very same Jesse Spencer who played Dr. Chase on House) arrived on Ramsay Street!

The Kennedys are my favourite TV family and one of my all-time favourite Neighbours families. I loved the Scullys to! I have grown up watching the Kennedys on TV every weeknight at 6:30pm and I can't believe how fast the 20 years have gone! I think some of my favourite Kennedy moments over the past 20 years have been the Kennedys arrival on Neighbours back in 1994, the famous slap that Susan gave Karl after his affair with Sarah (Nicola Charles) in 1998 and Libby and Drew's wedding in 2001. I actually didn't see the Kennedys arrival on the street when it first aired on TV because I was only six at the time but I've seen it on DVD a few times since then. I always crack up at the part where Danni (Eliza Szonert) and Brett Stark (Brett Blewitt) help the Kennedys move the piano (at least I think it was a piano?) and they make a huge hole in the wall, much to Karl's dismay.

I would like to congratulate Benji McNair, Kym Valentine, Jesse Spencer and especially, Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, who of course are still kicking it on Neighbours as the legendary Dr. Karl and Susan Kennedy after 20 years on this amazing milestone. I'm pretty sure that Alan Fletcher and Kym Valentine will be reading this and possibly some other current members of the Neighbours cast and crew so thank you very much for giving me and so many other Neighbours fans 20 years of very fond memories.

If any other Neighbours fans are reading this what are your favourite Kennedy moments? Feel free to share them in the comment box below. I will leave you all with a special video tribute that I made in honour of this event. I hope you enjoy it! Happy 20th anniversary to the Kennedys and much love!

Parenthood farewell season kicks off

Hi guys! Yes, I know its been a few weeks in between blog posts but I had a medical emergency. It was the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashana) last week and I was cutting an apple, you know to eat my apple dipped in honey. I somehow managed to give myself a very nasty cut with the knife. Five hours of waiting in the emergency room at the hospital and a tetanus shot later I had my finger bandaged up. The bandages are still on at the moment and they come off on Sunday! Yay! So, in a nutshell it is extremely hard to type with one hand, which I am doing right now. That's the reason for the lack of blog posts. I'm trying to get everything back to normal as soon as possible though.

I think I've bored everyone enough with my dramas so let's get straight into this. The sixth and final season of Parenthood premiered in the USA on September 25th. I'm in Sydney, Australia so unfortunately I didn't get to see the first episode of season six until a few days after the original air date. Parenthood's run in Australia has actually been very sporadic. The time slot changed so many times and it was always on late at night at about 9:30pm, as a result Parenthood has always been somewhat of an enigma on Australian television. I have always felt that if Channel 7 aired it a little earlier in the evening at about 8:30pm, and perhaps on another night not directly after Aussie family drama, Packed To The Rafters on a Tuesday it could've done well here. Parenthood has extremely loyal fans in Australia nonetheless, for those of us who do watch it. I have no idea when the sixth season will actually be airing in Australia so I'm watching it on American time (Thank goodness for internet streaming ay?)

So the end of season five left us wondering whether Amber [Mae Whitman] was pregnant, Zeke [Craig T. Nelson] and Camille [Bonnie Bedelia] sold the Braverman family home, Adam [Peter Krause] and Kristina [Monica Potter] were about to open their new school so Max [Max Burkholder] could attend and we were left wondering what the future would hold for Joel [Sam Jaeger] and Julia [Erika Christensen]. I really enjoyed the first episode of season six! It seems like Julia is trying to move on with her life after her separation from Joel. It should be interesting to see where Sarah's [Lauren Graham] relationship with Hank [Ray Romano] goes this time around and it was so heart warming at the end to see Max try and attend Chambers Academy after Adam and Kristina had worked so hard to get it open in time.

If the first episode of the new season is anything to go by I think we will be in for a great final season. Parenthood is a show that has become very dear to my heart because the story lines are quite true to life. I am so glad that it's back for a sixth season and I will be sad to see it go. Do any of you watch Parenthood? If, so feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment box below!

My ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

Photo from: Kim Kardashian's Facebook page

Hi everyone! I'm sure most of you have heard by now about the latest craze to take the world by storm. Yup! I'm talking about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a charity fundraiser in order to raise money for ALS disease. ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease. It is a motor neuron disease similar to MS, which ultimately results in death. Medications are used to reduce the symptoms of ALS but currently there is no cure for the disease.

The ALS Association is raising money for medical research to find a cure for the disease so many people have taken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to help raise funds for the cause. How it works is that a person is nominated by someone or you can nominate yourself to participate, you pour a bucket of ice water over your head and then you nominate three other people to to do it. The rule is that you must be filmed while doing the challenge and you must share it on social media to create awareness for the disease. Participants are generally required to complete their challenge within 24 hours of being nominated, I did my challenge a few days after being nominated though because I figured as long as I do the challenge and donate to the charity it shouldn't matter when I do it. If you are nominated but do not complete the challenge you are required to donate $100 to The ALS Association but if the challenge is accepted you are only required to donate $10 to The ALS Association.

Many high-profile celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, John Travolta and Victoria Beckham have all participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. That's not why I did it though. I actually think it's a great cause to find a cure for a very serious disease. I was nominated by my sister, Liat and I nominated two of my friends, Hannah and Lauren as well as Australian TV show host, Rove Mcmanus so let's hope they all accept their challenges haha! I am also going to donate to The ALS Association. Here's my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video! Please excuse the profanities LOL! Don't forget to donate to the ALS Association at   http://www.alsa.org/ .

Movie Review: Into The Storm

Photo from: Into The Storm Facebook page

Star Rating 3/5:

I went to see Into The Storm a couple of days ago. The film is directed by Steven Quale and stars Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta and Jeremy Sumpter. In general I thought it was a good movie, although I did think it took a while for the action to start. The movie is an action/natural disaster film. Of course I will not be giving too much of the plot line away for people who haven't seen it yet, but the basic plot is that in the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornados. Each tornado is worse than the previous and the entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones.

I saw the movie in Vmax so the sound quality was amazing. The sound was so powerful sometimes that I felt a rumbling under my chair. For me personally that is a positive thing because in an action film I think people do want a great cinematic sound as it makes you feel like you are actually part of the action.

As I mentioned I thought the movie was quite slow to start off with. For the first half an hour I was thinking "where's the storm already?" The film is a little less than an hour and a half long and I think that's usually quite short for an action film so I did expect the storm itself to come in a lot earlier than it did. If there was more action at the beginning of the film I would've given it a 3.5 star rating rather than a 3, because that's what really dragged the movie down for me. I went to see the movie with my friend so I asked her for her opinion on whether she thought the movie was slow to start because I wanted someone else's take on it and she agreed with me. Once the storm hit though the movie was action packed, dramatic and suspenseful. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next!

For a movie about a storm one would expect a lot of special effects, right? Well, the special effects in this movie definitely delivered. There were a few fire scenes, which I thought were pretty impressive and they certainly fit in well with what was going on in the film. It was great to see Jeremy Sumpter in a film, because I haven't seen him in anything for a very long time, probably since Peter Pan in 2003. I enjoyed seeing him in a movie as an adult and in a very different role. I haven't heard of any of the other lead cast members before. To be quite honest I didn't think the acting in the film was that great. Don't get me wrong it wasn't terrible, but at the same time I wouldn't say it is anything to write home about either. The actors and actresses performances in the film were pretty mediocre.

Overall, I actually did enjoy the movie because it turned out to be very action packed, suspenseful and dramatic, despite the slow start. If you like other natural disaster films like Twister and The Day After Tomorrow you will probably enjoy this one too.

RIP to the lovely Ms Joan Rivers!

Photo from: E! Online's Pinterest account
Hollywood has lost another one of its legends! Bad news travels fast unfortunately so I'm sure that you all know by now that America's funny woman, Joan Rivers has died at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York today. Rivers was pronounced dead at 1:17pm New York time. Complications started when she stopped breathing during a routine endoscopy and was rushed to the hospital about a week ago on August 28.

Ms Rivers paved the way for many future female comedians, breaking the glass ceiling of late night television by becoming the first woman to host her own late night talk show, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers. Joan Rivers has always had that trailblazing wit and humour, which has made audiences around the world love her. Nothing was ever off-topic with her, she talked about everything from jokes about her single daughter, Melissa to her own sex life.

Of course Rivers was famous for giving her hilarious commentary about her fellow celebrities in Hollywood. I don't think there is one celebrity in Hollywood who Ms Rivers didn't have a dig at. Her opinions may have seemed to harsh and controversial at times but she poked fun at everyone, and a lot of the time she was the butt of her own jokes. The comments were all in good fun and there was never any malicious intent in them. As Joan Rivers herself often said "I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking" and that's what she did.

The world has lost so much laughter recently, first Robin Williams and now Joan Rivers. Joan Rivers death is such a great loss to the entertainment industry. No matter what people may say about her, she is a true stalwart of entertainment. I personally loved her and her humour because it was honest and clever. I loved her recent rant about the Gaza conflict. It was brilliant! There seems to be a great comedy lineup in the heavens at the moment with Robin Williams and Joan Rivers. I hope Ms Rivers keeps 'em laughing up there as much as she did here during her lifetime! RIP Joan Rivers you amazing lady!

Do any of you have any favourite Joan Rivers moments or quotes? If, so I'd love to hear them so feel free to leave your comments in the comment box below. I will leave you with a recent appearance of Joan Rivers on The Late Show With David Letterman from July, 2014, which I thought was quite funny.

STARDUST weekly tidbits-August 29

Photo from: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Family Facebook page

Here's what's been making entertainment news headlines around the world this week...just in case you missed it!

Brangelina tie the knot in France
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally tied the knot after nine years and six children together. The Hollywood power couple married in France on August 23. Pitt and Jolie said their "I do's" at Chateau Miraval, which is in the French village of Corren, where the couple have an estate. The wedding was a private ceremony surrounded by family and close friends. The couple recently obtained a marriage licence from a California judge, who also performed the ceremony. The couple's children had major roles in the wedding. Jolie was walked down the aisle by her two eldest sons, Maddox and Pax, Zahara and Vivienne threw petals and Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers. "The reason for getting married was very simple. Obviously they love each other very much but every single day their kids asked them to get married. Now that everyone is old enough to understand what is going on they decided why not!" a source close to the couple has said.

Joan Rivers in coma
Comedian, Joan Rivers is in a medically induced coma after she stopped breathing during a routine endoscopy. When Rivers stopped breathing she was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Joan Rivers daughter, Melissa Rivers flew from Los Angeles to New York to be with her mother. "I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers" she said in a statement.

Mini Friends reunion on Jimmy Kimmel
Jennifer Aniston was making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her new film, Life Of Crime when Jimmy Kimmel confessed that he is a huge fan of Friends and had written a script of Friends fan fiction for them to take part in. "I loved the show so much I actually wrote some fan fiction. I wrote myself into it as Ross. I was wondering if you could do a scene from it with me?" Kimmel said. The skit was performed on an authentic re-creation of Monica's apartment from the TV series. Aniston seemed a little unwilling to participate at first. As the skit continued Kimmel and Aniston were joined by Aniston's Friends co-stars, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow. This mini cast reunion draws close to the 20th anniversary of this TV show that defined the 90s.

Hayden Panettiere reveals she's having a baby girl
Hayden Panettiere was glowing at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards this week with her baby bump. The 24-year-old actress revealed that she is due in December with a baby girl. Panettiere announced she was pregnant with her Ukrainian boxer fiance, Wladimir Klitschko when she did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last week.

Miley Cyrus raises $200,000 for youth homelessness
Miley Cyrus is in the entertainment news headlines for something positive for a change. Miley Cyrus set out to raise awareness for youth homelessness at the MTV VMA's on Sunday and she has been successful. Cyrus's fundraising campaign for My Friend's Place, a Los Angeles organisation that supports young homeless people on the streets raised $200,000 in just two days. Miley Cyrus has used her VMA attention this year for social good. She brought young, homeless man, Jesse Helt with her to Sunday night's awards show and when she won Video Of The Year for Wrecking Ball she gave him her acceptance speech time to speak out on his experiences as a homeless person. "I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know because I am one of these people" Helt said.

66TH Primetime Emmy Awards-Live Blog

Photo from: The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards Live Stream Facebook page

The television industry's night of nights is finally here! It's almost time for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards to begin! Some favourites to win are Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Orange Is The New Black and there will be a special tribute by Billy Crystal for the late Robin Williams, which I am dying to see! Right now it is 8:16am where I am in Sydney, Australia and I am trying to find a live stream so I can actually do this live blog of The Emmys for you! Unfortunately none of the free to air TV networks in Australia are airing The Emmys live, which is very disappointing. You'd think they would considering a lot of the shows nominated are broadcast over here as well. If I can't find a live stream of the whole awards I'll be able to bring you a live blog of The Emmys red carpet at least! While I blog I will be putting Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) first and then Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) second. So my live blog of The Emmys at The Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles starts...now!

8:40am AEST/3:40pm PDT I just saw Ed O'Neil from Modern Family on The Emmys red carpet! I'm hoping Modern Family takes out the award for Outstanding Comedy Series again!

9:21am AEST/4:21pm PDT Debra Messing is in the house at The Emmys!

9:33am AEST/4:33pm PDT One of the hot topics at The Emmys seems to be the series finale of Breaking Bad.

9:39am AEST/4:39pm PDT Julia Louis-Dreyfus seems to be the staunch favourite to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Veep. I would love Julia Louis-Dreyfus to win! I love her. She is such a great TV talent.

9:46am AEST/4:46pm PDT Jesse Tyler-Ferguson from Modern Family has just arrived at The Emmys! Can Modern Family win 5 Emmys in a row for Outstanding Comedy Series? If it does it will beat Fraiser's record!

9:52am AEST/4:52pm PDT I have just seen Julia Roberts and Sofia Vergara on The Emmys red carpet! They both look stunning! I think Sofia Vergara's dress is my favourite so far. She always wears something classy and gets it right!

10:23am AEST/5:23pm PDT I thought Julie Bowen or Mayim Bialik would win that Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

11:45am AEST/6:45pm PDT The Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Movie goes to Normal Heart, which starred Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo.

11:48am AEST/6:48pm PDT It wouldn't be an Emmy Awards show without a "so many Jews work in Hollywood" joke would it Sarah Silverman? Congrats on your Emmy win by the way!

12pm AEST/7pm PDT The Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Variety Show goes to The Colbert Report! Congratulations to Stephen Colbert! 12:59pm AEST/7:59pm PDT The Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Drama Series goes to Breaking Bad. Wow! I thought with the popularity of Game Of Thrones that it would win. I think Breaking Bad probably won because it was their final year though right?

I am stoked that Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Modern Family won Emmys this year! I honestly thought Game Of Thrones would walk away with something. My fashion pick of the night was Sofia Vergara. Her white dress was so beautiful! A special thanks goes to NBC for their live stream of the 66th Primetime Emmys, without this I would not have been able to bring you this live blog. Until next year folks!

If any of you guys also watched the Emmys I'd love to know your opinions and thoughts on this year's show so feel free to leave your comments in the comment box below!
